In the Grafton area, the log house owned by David McGregor Rogers served as a depot for the distribution of provisions. The Rogers family had been connected with the military for most of its history. Perhaps the most famous member was David's uncle, Robert Rogers, an American who founded Rogers' Rangers during the Seven Years War and helped defeat the French in North America. In 1779 he raised a new corps, the King's Rangers, for the Revolutionary War. He was its Lieutenant-Colonel and David's father, James Rogers, commanded its 2nd Battalion. At war's end James took his own family and his men and their families to Fredericksburgh and later to Hallowell, Prince Edward County.
