In the Grafton area, the log house owned by David McGregor Rogers served as a depot for the distribution of provisions. The Rogers family had been connected with the military for most of its history. Perhaps the most famous member was David's uncle, Robert Rogers, an American who founded Rogers' Rangers during the Seven Years War and helped defeat the French in North America. In 1779 he raised a new corps, the King's Rangers, for the Revolutionary War. He was its Lieutenant-Colonel and David's father, James Rogers, commanded its 2nd Battalion. At war's end James took his own family and his men and their families to Fredericksburgh and later to Hallowell, Prince Edward County. David moved to Grafton in 1808 was living in a house of rough logs; he had culitvated only sixteen of his 1,400 acres. By 1813 he had built a two-story frame house. This house no longer stands but a family house built by a grandson is located well back from the Danforth on the original Rogers property (Lot 25, Concession 1, Haldimand). The courthouse was subsequently use as a home by a Captain Selleck and his family. Timothy Thompson, Thomas Ward, Joseph Gibson, and David Rogers used other lots in Newcastle. However, because Newcastle did not become the district capital, the development of Presqu'ile (and Brighton) was delayed." from page 56 of "The Municipality of Brighton" published in 2006.
Note: This addresses the situation at Presqu'ile Point after the sinking of the Speedy in October 1804.7 - Residence*: 1808; Conc 1 Lot 25, Haldimand Twp., Grafton, Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; "The Danforth route carried military traffic during the War of 1812. David moved to Grafton and in 1808 was living in a house of rough logs; he had culitvated only sixteen of his 1,400 acres. By 1813 he had built a two-story frame house. This house no longer stands but a family house built by a grandson is located well back from the Danforth on the original Rogers property (lot 25, concessio 1, Haldimand). David served for many years as a member of the Legistlative Assembly. He died in 1824." from "Homesteads: Early buildings and families from Kingston to Toronto", Margaret McBurley & Mary Byer, 1979, pg. 1608

Note: The year does not make sense here. Rogers sold this lot to Josiah Proctor in 1814, so the Patent must be before that. - Note*: 12 April 1816; Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; On 12 April 1816 a special survey of Concessions B and C had been finished for the settlement of disbanded soldiers from the 1812-1814 War and emigrants from Europe. The two men involved were Mr. Rider (not identified), the surveyor, and DMG Rogers, the Deputy Superintendent of Locations. The latter was identified by L. Homfray Irving in Officers of the British Forces in Canada during the War of 1812-15 as Major David Macgregor Rogers of the 1st Northumberland Regiment. Background information is provided in this book about the regiments whose disbanded soldiers were located in the two Concessions: Canadian Regiment of Fencibles, the 90th Regiment of Infantry, the 41st Regiment of Foot (First Battalion), the 19th Light Dragoons, the Glengarry Light Infantry Fencibles, and the 6th (Warwickshire). Only the Fencibles and the Glengarry are Canadian regiments. The rest are British regulars." from History of South Murray Twp. by Margaret L.
