" ... He married Jessie Atkinson, who predeceased him about twenty years ago; later he married Serecta Smith, who survives him. ... " from Death Notice; Principal=Serecta Elizabeth Smith5 - Death*: 6 March 1937; Echo, Ontario; "Havelock Trainman Killed - Harry Buchanan, resident of Havelock, but who for some years had been working out of Smiths Falls as C.P.R. trainman, was fatally injured early Saturday morning in an accident which occurred on the main line near Echo, forty-seven miles west of Smiths Falls. There were no witnesses to the accident. Brakeman on a westbound Smiths Falls-to-Trenton train, Mr. Buchanan is believed to have fallen from the engine as the crew prepared to put the train on a siding. Members of the crew missed the brakeman when they arrived at the siding and returned along the track, finding the body some distance back. Injuries indicated that the brakeman had been crushed beneath the engine pilot, and that his body had not fallen beneath the wheels. Death had probably been instantaneous. News of the tragic death of Harry Buchanan came as a great shock to many people here. Mr. Buchanan was born in Asphodel sixty-three years ago, his parents being Thomas Buchanan and Dorinda Leeper. About thirty years ago he went to Havelock to work for the C.P.R. He married Jessie Atkinson, who predeceased him about twenty years ago; later he married Serecta Smith, who survives him. Left to mourn the loss of a faithful husband and father are his widow, a daughter, Donna, a son, Wallace, also two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. George McNeely, Norwood; Mrs. John Logan, Biggar, Sask.; Fred Elmhirst, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; George Elmhirst, Campbellford, and Bruce Elmhirst, New York. The funeral took place on Monday at Havelock and was largely attended. Service was conducted by Rev. S. A. Kemp, assisted by Rev. Mr. Perrie. Interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery. Numerous floral tributes from friends, acquaintances, lodges, Mr. W. C. Beck, C.P.R., superintendent, and other officials, paid mute tribute to the esteem in which the deceased was held. The pallbearers, all members of the Railway Trainmen, of which Harry was a valued member, were Jack Hart, Earl Webb, Henry Sexsmith, Jack Reed, Thomas Davidson, Russell Gendron."
