Roger Bidwell Wolcott1,2

M, #105355, b. 1769, d. circa 1833
  • Birth*: 1769; Newington, Connecticut, U.S.A.; Date 1769 & location USA per Upper Canada Land Petition which says he was 47 years of age in 1816 and born in the USA. This means that this guy is not the son of Rober Wolcott of Cobourg. Maybe a cousin. (Dan Buchanan, Oct 4 2024.)

Date 1794 & location Cobourg per family tree of Bill Ferguson on ancestry.ca, Oct 3 2024. Date 1769 per family tree of Gail Spencer on ancestry.ca, Oct 4 2024. per family tree of mikemccrumb on ancestry.ca, Oct 16 2020.
Note: I wonder where the 1769 date comes from? That would work better for this guy, who is listed in the Newcastle Census for the first time in 1809 with a wife and 1 female child. Does this make him NOT a son of Roger Wolcott of Hamilton Twp.??? (Dan Buchanan, Oct 4 2024)2,3

  • Note*: between 1812 and 1814; Hamilton Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; " ... served in the last war with Great Britain." This from an item in Wolcott Genealogy, North America, Family Histories, pg. 130. Note: This suggests that Roger Woclott, who was the husband of Elizabeth Bosworth, served on the British side during the War of 1812. That would be due to the fact that he lived in Upper Canada, in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, near Cobourg. He was not related to Lieut. Roger Woclott of the Northumberland Militia, but probably knew him. This all supports this Robert B. Wolcott having two families, one in N.Y. and one in Upper Canada. He left the first one and came to UC in 1806, married Anna Harris and raised another family here. If anyone has contradictory info with proof, I'm all ears! (Dan Buchanan, Oct 4 2024)2
