"Late Benjamin Stuart: The death of an old resident of Brighton, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Mary McColl, Campbell St., Trenton, occurred on Wednesday, September 17th, in the person of Benjamin Stuart, at a ripe old age. He died on his 75th birthday. The deceased was born in Scotland and came to Canada with his parents in his early youth, where he resided in the vicinity of Codrington, until his marriage to Jenny Loomis, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Loomis, of that neighborhood. Shortly after their marriage the young couple moved to Bay City, Mich., where Mr. Stuart engaged in contracting, farming and other occupations. Later they moved to Minnesota, where they resided for a number of years, previous to their return to Canada. A family of five children were born to them, all of whom have passed away, but the eldest son, Thomas, who resides in Bimidji, Minn. Mrs. Stuart predeceased him by one year, passing away on August 11, 1929. One brother, David, of Codrington, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Hayes, of Trenton, are the sole survivors of his family. After the death of his wife Mr. Stuart's health failed and he spent some time in Belleville hospital and later took up residence with his niece in Trenton, where his death occurred. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart were well known and highly respected in Brighton during their residence here. Mr. Thomas Stuart of Bimidji, Minn., son of the deceased, attended the funeral which took place in Trenton, Rev. P. Heywood of Trenton and Rev. E. A. Slemin of Brighton conducted the services. The remains were laid to rest in St. George's Cemetery, Trenton, on September 19th, 1930." from The Brighton Ensign, Friday, October 3, 1930, seen on microfilm at The Ontario Archives, May 10, 20016 - Burial*: 19 September 1930; St. George's Cemetery, Trenton, Hastings Co., Ontario; Stone shows: Stuart; Jennie Loomis, 1855-1929; Benjamin W.
