"This week Brighton is mourning the loss of one of its most influential and highly respected citizens, in the person of Dr. Charles Sandford who passed away at the family residence, "Hill Crest,'' on Tuesday, the eleventh of April. Dr. Sandford was the youngest son of the late Dorman Sandford who was one of the pioneers of this district. He was educated at Brighton High School and after finishing his course here, entered Trinity University, Toronto, from which institution he graduated in the Spring of 1886. He began the practice of his profession in his native town and, had he lived until May of this year, would have completed thirty years of usefulness among the people he loved so well. In 1888 he married Nellie Ferris, daughter of the late Matthew Ferris, who with one daughter survives. For many years Dr. Sandford was County Coroner and also surgeon for the Grand Trunk Railway. A loving husband and indulgent father, and a faithful and loyal friend has gone to his reward. Many will miss his kindly smile and hearty handclasp, but he has left behind him the fruits of a clean and useful life. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family in this their great sorrow. The funeral was largely attended, many coming from out of town. He was buried with Masonic honors in the family plot at Mount Hope. The pall bearers were six members of the medical fraternity: Dr. Lapp and Dr. Ferris of Cobourg, Dr. Farncombe of Trenton, Dr. Dure, Dr. Wade and Dr. Rundle of Brighton." from pg. 037 of Newspaper Clippings, a collection donated by Shawnee Spencer to the Brighton Digital Archives, 2022.6,11,12 - Burial*: 13 April 1916; Mount Hope Cemetery, Brighton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; CemSearch: Name: Charles Marcus Sandford; Born: May 5 1862; Died: Apr 11 1916; ID: MTHOPE385; Other names: Begg, Irene [Sandford] (1898-1947), Ferris, Margaret Irene (1872-1948), Sandford, Mary Ellen [Ferris] (1865-1931); Cemetery: Mount Hope Cemetery, Conc A, Lot 35, Brighton Twp., Sec 1 Row 20, Brighton Village; Note: Husband of Mary Ellen Ferris (https://www.cemsearch.ca/burial/?pID=MTHOPE385%5E0)6
