  • Marriage*: 1944; Ontario; " ... husband of 72 years, ... " per Obit of Georgena Martin. per Obit of sister Lucie Elizabeth Anne (Flindall) Craig.; Principal=Arthur Alexander Martin2
  • Death*: 19 March 2016; Whitby, Ontario; Date 2016 per FindaGrqave. "Georgena Martin; Georgena Martin (nee Flindall) slipped away peacefully at her home in Whitby with her family by her side on the morning of Saturday, March 19, 2016, in her 92d year. She bravely, and quietly, endured the ailments that accompany a long life, and is now at peace. Georgena is survived by the love of her life, her high school sweetheart and husband of 72 years, Arthur Martin. Predeceased by their eldest daughter, Carolyn (Berline), her parents, Stephen and Olive (nee Nix) Flindall, her sisters, Katherine, Lucie and Janet, and her brothers Nix, Leslie, Ralph, Albert and Ivan. Georgena will be greatly missed by their son Allan (Patti Todd), daughters Marilyn Scobie, Barbara Hall (Chris Powell), Brenda Martin (Paul Garrett), grandchildren Christopher, John (Andrea), Adam (Monika), Calay, Heather and great grandchildren (James, Sho, Lisa, Ava, Chloe). She is the dear sister-in-law of Madge Flindall, alice Sheffield, Louise Snider (Allan), and Campbell Martin (Mary-Anne), step-grandmother to Matthew, Michelle, Kristen, Reid, Ben, Stephanie and Amanda and step great-grandmother to Tehya, Addison and Penelope. Intelligent and resourceful, Georgena acquired many skills growing up on the farm in Brighton. Rarely idle, she spent countless hours sewing - everything from clothing to dolls to quilts - and she left no craft unexplored. The consummate hostess, Georgena was famous for her culinary skills - she made a mean trifle - but more than anything else she loved a strong cup of coffee and a good chat. Georgena loved her life, and everyone in it, unconditionally. Beautiful inside and out, our amazing Mother lived her life with integrity and a fun-loving spirit. We will miss you Mon: your voicec, your wit, your wisdom, your kindness and most of all, your love. You will live forever in our hearts and minds, and will always be remembered. Thanks you for being that wonderful individual who helped to guide us along life's journey. Georgena and the family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Taunton Mills. And, in particular, extend our profound thanks to Grace Martins. Grace, your were so much more than a PSW, your love and friendship and extraordinary care meant so much to all of us, especially Mom. Yuo oare truly one of a kind. To respect Georgena's wishes there will not be a memorial at this time. Cremation has been arranged at the Brighton Funeral Home. If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please give to the MS Society of Canada, the Arthritis Society of a charity of your choice." from the Brighton Independent, April 7, 2016.2,4

Mount Hope Cemetery, Brighton, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada; MEMORIAL ID: 215400967; Note: "Passed peacefully at his home with his family by his side, on September 12, 2019, in his 96th year. Predeceased by his wife, Georgena (née Flindall), of 71 years, eldest daughter Carolyn (Berlin), his parents Allan and Lucie Martin (née McKay), and sister Alice (Sheffield). Loving father of Marilyn Scobie, Barbara Hall (Chris Powell), Allan (Patti Todd), and Brenda Martin (Paul Garrett). Big brother of Louise Snider and Campbell Martin (Mary-Anne). Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Christopher, John (Andrea), Adam (Monika), Calay, Heather, and great-grandchildren, James, Sho, Lisa, Ava, and Chloé.
Driven by his curious spirit, Arthur developed many lifelong hobbies as a youth in Brighton, including his love of music and sports. After five years of dating, he married his high school sweetheart, Georgena, just before heading overseas. He bravely served his country during World War II in the RAF as a navigator on Lancaster bombers.
After the war, he attended University of Toronto, where he earned his B.A./B.Ed. He dedicated his life to teaching and was Principal at K.C.V.I. in Kingston, Bayview S.S. and Langstaff S.S. in Richmond Hill and Frontenac S.S. in Kingston.
Retirement kept Arthur and Georgena busy with many interests and hobbies. They bought a home in Florida and spent many winters golfing and hosting friends.
Family, immediate and extended, were extremely important to Arthur; driving for hours - on any given weekend - was a pleasure to him if the destination was family. He was passionate about genealogy, wrote extensively about the Martin family and was an integral part of the Martin Family Picnic.
Nothing made him happier than a day spent puttering in the garden, 'travelling the world' with his stamp collection, reading or working on his computer.
Arthur committed a great deal of time to the Ontario Regiment in Oshawa. He embraced their motto in all aspects of his life - Faithful and Prepared - he was there when needed and ready to do what was required. Throughout his long life, he celebrated the achievements of his five children and was always ready to help in any way. He was a man of integrity, had strong faith and was generous to a fault."
