- Birth*: March 1849; Ohio, U.S.A.; Date Mar 1849 & location Ohio per 1900 US Fed Census. Date 1849 & location US & R. C. per 1891 Census. "You will note that he mentions that Charles (son of Charles & Mary) had a “…illegimate (illegitimate) son in Murray Township (Jack), then married a Spanish Mexican wife in California…”.
Probably that’s why you couldn’t find a record of marriage for Charles before he left for California in 1859 at the age of 25. But Charles’ son John (called Jack by my father) seemed to have been brought up on the original Goodfellow farm on Preston Hill by his grandmother Mary and his uncle George, and inherited the family farm on Preston Hill.
There appears to be a record of a Charles Goodfellow in California in both the 1870 & 1880 Census, but I haven’t found a wedding record.
Then in 1888, you found a record of Charles back on the Preston Hill farm with his wife Rose (US born & RC – could she have been the Spanish wife? If she was 42 in 1891, then she would have been only 11 in 1860 when John was born, so she probably wasn’t John’s mother)." per email from Phil Goodfellow, May 4, 2005.3,4,5 - Marriage*: after 1871; California, U.S.A.; If Charles Goodfellow in the Eureka Twp., Nevada Co., California 1870 Census is this guy, then he was not married until after this date - he is shown as a single miner.

Note: All three sons are shown to be married - clearly an M in that column??? May be true for John but not for Charles and certainly not Earl at age 18???
Note: Connaughty is the surname of John Goodfellow's grandmother - wife of Charles - the immigrants to Preston Hill, but this is clearly Connaught, a much more illustrious name in British and Canadian history.7
