- Birth*: 1892; Scotland; Date 1892 & location Scotland per 1911 Census - adopted.1,2
- Death*: 3 May 1917; France; "Two More Brighton Boys Killed. One Missing, One Wounded (1917) Added to the Roll of Honor of those who have given their lives for Canada and the Empire, are two more Brighton boys, news being received here Thursday, by special messages from the officer in charge of records at Ottawa, also advice that another is missing and still another wounded. Pte. Edward Wilson, formerly reported missing; killed in action on April 13th; advice directed to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ephriam Wilson. His brother Frank gave his life on the battlefield a short time ago. PTE. William Rittwage, killed in action on May 4th; advice directed to his mother, Mrs. Arthur Rittwage. Pte. Alexander Paterson, officially reported missing between May 3rd and 4th; advice received by Matthew McDonald, with whom he made his home.
Pte Joseph Bolderstone, officially reported as being admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds in knee; advice directed to his wife. All of these boys were formerly of the 139th Batt. The deepest sympathy is extended to the relatives by the entire community. This is a big record for one day for a town of this size. All honor to these boys who were each nobly doing their part in subduing the greatest oppressors known in modern history." from pg. 053 of Newspaper Clippings, a collection donated by Shawnee Spencer to the Brighton Digital Archives, 2022.1
