The above date is at variance with the 1794 date published hitherto, but Nelson Pickell who is now in his 77th year, and who all his life time has resided in the vicinity of Oshawa, positively maintains that 1790 is the correct date. Mr. Pickell is excellent authority in the matter, as he is a grandson of the Wilsons. His mother born in 1793 was the eldest daughter of Benjamin Wilson, and said to have been the first white girl born between York (now Toronto) and Bay Quinte. The Wilson family were U.E. Loyalists."
