• Death*: 30 September 1974; General and Marine Hospital, Owen Sound, Grey Co., Ontario; "William Edward Monahan; A retired member of the Owen Sound fire department, William Eward Monahan, 87, died in the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital, Monday. Mr. Monahan, son of the late William Monahan and Sarah Goodfellow Monahan, was born and raised on a farm near East Linton in Sarawak Township. In 1911 he established a livery business on Second Ave., E., north of 10th St. The business was sold in 1913 and he joined the Owen Sound fire department. He was promoted to captain in 1946 and after 43 years service with the city retired in 1958. ... ON Nov. 5, 1914, Mrs. Monahan married Isabelle McMillan of Ben Allen, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Evelyn, Mrs. E. Peddle of Georgetown, a son William H. of Markham, six grandhildren and seven great grandchildren, and a brother James of East Linton. Monahan Sr., a well known and highly respected resident of this district for many years, passed away on Wednesday afternoon at the Owen Sound G. and M. Hospital. Mrs. Monahan, who was 64, had been in failing health for the past year, but had been a patient in the hospital only since Sunday. The former Ida Larter, she was born near East Linton, a daughter of the late Joshua and Anna Lyness Larter. She married to John A. Monahan who survives to mourn her loss., 42 years ago last March. Mrs. Monahan was a member of the Shallow Lake Presbyterian Church and was active in women's organizations. Besides, her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Sadie, Mrs. John Cameron of Jackson, and three sons: Joshua of Mount Forest, Howard of Mount Forest and Jack of Owen Sound.
