His parents were Samuel Greer (not Moses as previously indicated) and Sarah Guy. His grandfather was Moses Greer. He had brothers Moses and John. Brother Moses was married to ‘Bell’ and they had six children, five of whom survived to adulthood: John (b. 1825), Alexander (b. 1827), Samuel (b. 1828), Alexander (b. 1833), Sarah (b. 1837), and Hugh (b. 1841). Alexander’s first wife was Ann MacDonald, possibly the daughter of Henry MacDonald, son of David MacDonald, Sr., a United Empire Loyalist from New Brunswick. Henry MacDonald’s children were born in New Brunswick before coming to Prince Edward County in about 1820. Based on marriage, census, and death records of Alexander and Ann’s children, we know that her name was Ann MacDonald and that she was born in New Brunswick.
