The Van Sicklin family had already been established in the lawson settlement since 1804. Peter met and married Elizabeth Crouter who had been living in Singleton's Corners since 1822, when she had arrived from County Cork, Ireland. Peter and Elizabeth bought the north west corner of Lot 28, Concession A, Murray Township and carved a farm from the virgin forest. On that farm they raised seven children, five of whom later married and established their own families in the area. Elizabeth Couter Peister died at age 63 in 1873. Peter Peister Sr. lived until Nov. 6, 1891."
