The following winter he had three serious ailments which left him in delicate health. He taught school and in 1849 he was admitted a student for the ministry. He studied under Rev. Wm. Proudfoot, London, and Dr. John Taylor, Toronto. On February 27, 1856, he was ordained and inducted in the charge of Hibbert. On September 19, 1871, he resigned due to ill health and moved to a farm at Grenfell, Saskatchewan where he held services and conducted Bible class.
