  • Residence*: 1809; Ernestown Twp., Addington Co., Upper Canada; "Near Napanee (lot 28, concession 5, North Fredericksburgh) is a frame house which commands notice today as it did when it was known as the Fralick Tavern, a popular coaching inn and meeting place. .... The host of the inn was John Fralick. He acquired the land in 1809 from Ensign William Crawford and it remained in the family, passing later to Lydia Fralick Van Slyck." from "Homesteads: Early buildings and families from Kingston to Toronto" by Margaret McBurney and Mary Byers, 1979, pg. 864
  • Note: 17 February 1840; The Fralick Tavern, Morven, Lennox & Addington Co., Upper Canada; “The old Fralick tavern stood on the north side of the road just east of the town line, in fact the building is still standing, but has been remodelled into the farmhouse of Mr. B. B. Vanslyck. In the east end was the bar. The building across the way now used as a drive house was the old tavern barn.” Walter S. Herrington, K.C., History of the County of Lennox and Addington, The Macmillan Company of Canada, Limited, Toronto, 1913, Page 172.
  • Note*: circa 1850; Canada West; The townships and counties are confusing in this area. Here is what I understand. Lennox and Addington Counties were created in 1792. They were not functioning municipal entities but were electoral districts. Lennox included Richmond, North and South Fredericksburgh, Adolphustown and Napanee. Addington took in Errnestown, Camden, sheffield, Denbigh, Abinger and Ashy and Kaladar and Anglesea Townships. In 1860 the two counties were merged into Lennox & Addington County. In 2004 this entity was divided into lower-teir municipalities of Addington Highlands, Stone Mills and Loyalist. As an electoral district, Addngton is different - don't ask. What we do know is that Lennox and Addington elected separate representatives to parliament for a long time. (Dan Buchanan)
  • Residence: circa 1850; North Fredericksburgh Twp., Morven, Lennox Co., Canada West; "William Herrington described the nearby hamlet of Morven in his "History of the County of Lennox and Addington" as a spot whose beginning and ending are hard to locate. It had, however, a lively past which is associated chiefly with taverns and politics. Morven was the only polling place in the county for many years, he explained, and "as the poll was held in one of the several wayside inns and the election pasted several days, and treating was considered quite the proper thing, and whiskey was cheap, it is very easy to conclude that it was to the interest of the tavern-keeper to remain on favourable terms with the party in power:. No doubt John Fralick and family received their full share of business during those marathon polling sessions." from "Homesteads: Early buildings and families from Kingston to Toronto" by Margaret McBurney and Mary Byers, 1979, pg. 864
