It took a couple of minutes before everyone realized something was terribly wrong. After being transported to local hospital the long time track supporter was prounounced deceased. The balance of the night's racing was called off for another day. Edward Dingman, 19, was in a 14-foot outboard motor boat with three companions when the motor stalled. Village police said Sharon Bedford, 18, of the Brighton area, Linda Anderson, 19, of the Codrington Area, and John Gibson, 16, Hastings, jumped overboard as the boat drifted by the Long Pier and were pulled to safety by two unidentified Toronto anglers. Dingman apparently remained in the boat and was swept over the dam. The boat was recovered later at First Island, downstream from the area of the dam.
