War. The Fairfield genealogies say that Isaac moved to NY ... taking Seth, his younger brother with him as his guardian. Seth later winds up in Ontario, Canada. I never understood why; the Goulds were Patriots, and he marries into a Loyalist line." from Joe Travis's GEDCOM5

"Death of Dr. Gould - th edeath of C. M. Gould, M. D., removes from this community one of its most prominent residents. After a lingering illness of four or five months, he quietly passed away on Wednesday evening, 4th June, 1890. Deceased was born in Cramahe over sixty-two years ago and resided in the township until some nine years since, when he removed from Castleton to Colborne. As a physician, he was popular and successful ... municipally, he was at the top of the ladder until it was his own desire to retire, serving many years as Reeve of Cramahe, and Warden of Northumberland and Durham in 1870, just twenty years ago ... The funeral on Friday was very largely attended, and the services in the Methodist Church were extremely impressive. The remains were taken to Castleton for interment. Deceased leaves a wife, but no children." from Carol Brown's book of news articles, copied at The Cobourg Public Library, Oct. 2001

Nothing more was learned until Tuesday, when the body accompanied by the bereaved widow, arrived at Colborne G. T. R. station, and was conveyed to the residence of Mr. Willett Gould. It was learned that the deceased came to his death by the straining of the ligaments of the heart. This took place about three weeks ago and the attending physicians were of the opinion that he would recover, almost to the last moment. Mr. Gould was one of a large and respected family well known here for many years, infact his father was one of the first settlers in these parts. The deceased left here when quite a young man and has visited this section of country but seldom since. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Wednesday last, at the Salem church and the remains were interred in the cemetery adjoining." from Carol Brown's book of news articles, copied at The Cobourg Public Library, Oct. 2001
