- Residence*: 1794; Kingston, Frontenac Co., Upper Canada; "On request of local agent John Hamilton, the Governor Simcoe was constructed at Kingston’s humming Royal Navy Dockyard for the prosperous Montreal firm owned by Isaac Todd and James McGill. The merchant schooner was launched in 1794. A message was sent earlier to England appealing for a particular man to take the helm of the new craft. Accepting the offer, Capt. Henry James Murney arrived in Kingston that same year. The 34-year-old commander settled nicely into his duties on the Great Lakes, transporting goods and supplies to military posts and private customers." article in Kingston Whig, March 19 2013, Susanna McLeod - https://www.thewhig.com/2013/03/19/murney-a-towering-figure-of-early-kingston/wcm/9d85d0e8-5676-a97f-faca-3db1efe5b417
- Note*: 1801; Glenora Ship Yards, Glenora, Prince Edward Co., Upper Canada; "Seizing an opportunity, Capt. Murney built his own ship in about 1801. The first vessel constructed at the Glenora shipyards in Prince Edward County, Murney’s schooner Prince Edward “was made altogether of red cedar, a kind of wood formerly very plentiful along the bay, and which possesses a most agreeable odor,” wrote William Canniff in “The Settlement of Upper Canada” (Dudley & Burns, Printers, Toronto 1869). Large enough “to allow 700 barrels of flour to be stowed beneath her hatches,” wrote Canniff, the Prince Edward was regarded as “a staunch good ship with an able captain … and made for her owner a small fortune.” Murney’s sturdy schooner was contracted to the government as an “armed vessel” during the War of 1812." article in Kingston Whig, March 19 2013, Susanna McLeod - https://www.thewhig.com/2013/03/19/murney-a-towering-figure-of-early-kingston/wcm/9d85d0e8-5676-a97f-faca-3db1efe5b417
- Residence: 1809; Farm Lot 25, Kingston, Frontenac Co., Upper Canada; "In 1809, the Captain purchased Farm Lot 25 from United Empire
Loyalist leader Capt. Michael Grass. It was a beautiful and
expansive waterfront property bordered by Barrie and West
streets and encompassing both sides of King Street (now City and Macdonald parks). A short street pointing to the shoreline was named for one of Murney’s daughters, Emily Street. And close by was the grassy Murney Point." article in Kingston Whig, March 19 2013, Susanna McLeod - https://www.thewhig.com/2013/03/19/murney-a-towering-figure-of-early-kingston/wcm/9d85d0e8-5676-a97f-faca-3db1efe5b417

Murney died in Kingston in 1835. He was buried in St. Paul’s
Anglican Church cemetery on Queen Street. The Captain missed
out on the financial advancement his property was to bring.
Preparations were under way for Kingston to become the Province of Canada’s First Capital in the early 1840s. “The government bought the park area as a site for the proposed Parliament building,” wrote Margaret Angus in “The Old Stones of Kingston: Its Buildings Before 1867” (University of Toronto Press, 1966). Catherine Murney and family “were suddenly in a position to make a large amount of money.” Along with selling waterfront lots for stately new homes, Angus wrote, “Mrs. Murney built the pleasant stone home at the southwest corner of King and Maitland streets” in approximately 1841." article in Kingston Whig, March 19 2013, Susanna McLeod - https://www.thewhig.com/2013/03/19/murney-a-towering-figure-of-early-kingston/wcm/9d85d0e8-5676-a97f-faca-3db1efe5b417
