Obituary: "A sad and fatal accident occurred near Lakeport about ten o'clock on Monday morning last, which resulted in the death of Mr. D. Reddick, a highly respected farmer who resided in Brighton township. It appears that Mr. Reddick was returning from the Canning Factory at Lakeport where he had taken a wagon load of tomatoes, and had a number of empty crates on the wagon, when it is supposed that the horses became frightened at the rattling of the empty boxes and ran away, colliding with a telegraph pole with such force as to break it down. The shock of the collision threw Mr. Reddick off the wagon and in falling his head struck the ground killing him instantly. Dr. Thorburn was called but found that life was extinct before his arrival. Undertaker Herrington took charge of the body and the friends were notified. The deceased, who was in his 64th year, leaves a wife and grown up family to mourn their loss." from newspaper clipping sent to me by Carole Ring, Sep 6 2024.

Date Sep 23 1896 per Memorial & CemSearch.

Note: Carole Ring describes this event in her video on the BDA web site. She says David Reddick was returning from Lakeport with a load of apples and the horses were spooked by the sound of empty barrels banging together on the wagon. As a result, David was thrown off the load and killed instantly. (Dan Buchanan, Sep 1 2024)8,9,10,11
