Calgary, Calgary Census Division, Alberta, Canada; PLOT: Section L, Block 3, Plot 12; MEMORIAL ID: 123138942; Note: G..A. Davidson, one of Calgary's most efficient and highly respected school principals, died at the General hospital at 3 o'clock Friday morning, from shock following an operation. The deceased had been on leave of absence for the past two weeks from his duties, knowing that he would have to undergo an operation. He went into hospital on Monday morning, and the operation was performed on Thursday.
The late Mr. Davidson came to Calgary about nine years ago, with his wife and family, and for a few years was engaged in business. In January, 1915, he became principal of the two-room school in North Calgary, and from September, 1915, to March, 1916, he was teaching at Victoria school. He was also acting principal of Connaught school for a few months, and from September, 1916, for nearly two years, he was vice-principal of the Central school. In September, 1918, he became principal of the Alexandra school, and has held that position ever since.
Dr. A.M. Scott, superintendent of schools, said this morning that Mr. Davidson's work in the Alexandra school was very successful, and that he had a great deal of influence, especially on the boys of the district. "He was a man of the finest type of character, very faithful and conscientious, and always devoted to his work," said Dr. Scott. "And he succeeded in building up an excellent school spirit at Alexandra. He will be very much missed by the pupils, teachers, and parents of the district, and he has left a place which will be very hard to fill."
Mr. Davidson was born at Brighton, Ont., 41 years ago. He is survived by his widow and two children, residing at 1724 Fourteenth avenue west; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W.N. Davidson; and two sisters, Mrs. A. Harnden and Miss Isabell Davidson, all of Brighton, Ont.
