- Note*: 1824; Conc 2 Lot 1, Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; "If one could have met John Singleton he perhaps would have said: "It is true, I bought, in 1818, the west side of Young from Dorman Street, North, over the Proctor Hill, and extending North to where the Creek crosses the gravel road, 1 1/4 miles north of Main Street. It is true that I was not as enthusiastic as Thomas D. Sanford over the future of Young, selling to him in 1825 all west of Young, between Dorman and the village line just north of the Proctor House having sold the rest in 1824 to Benjamin Davidson for water purposes. I did it believing that the real future lies along the east side of Prince Edward, which I have already bought, for is not business bound to be towards the bay, so as to reach the boats? Also, Jonathan Ogden's bus line will begin in 1827, and will go along Prince Edward Street, coming from Prince County, to pass John M. Lawson's place, and probably, in the future the Trent will have a Bridge. All of which ought to help property East of Young and Prince Edward." from page 71 of the Toby Book. Here Mr. Toby is speculating about how John Singleton might have explained his selling of the land in Conc 2 Lot 1 to Thomas Sanford and Benjamin Davidson in 1824. He put his money on the east side of Prince Edward Street, literally.4
