Memphis, Macomb County, Michigan, USA; Memorial ID: 52887329; Note: JOSEPH MONTNEY JR was born Apr 10 1788, New York. It might have been Mohawk Town in Montgomery County. He was born on Easter Sunday. He was baptized on Feb 14 1790 in the Methodist Church in the Town
of Florida, Montgomery County by Rev. James Dempster, who organized the Log Meeting House in the Town. He emigrated about 1820 from Waupoos Ontario, Canada. He fought in the War of 1812 and was wounded in battle. He
immigrated about 1849 to Clayton, Jefferson County NY. After the Civil War, the Montneys moved to Armada, Macomb County, MI. They spent the rest of their lives in Michigan, living in Macomb, St Clair, Genesee, and Ogemaw
Counties. He was a farmer. He was working the day he died, and came in for dinner. It wasn't ready so he said he would lie down and wait.
He never woke up. He died Jun 15 1883 in Memphis, Michigan, and was buried Jun 1883 in Memphis Cemetery. (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/52887329)4

There is evidence that he was wounded in the War of 1812 and that he immigrated to Canada in 1820, returning to his native New York almost 30 years later and operating a 125 acre farm for the next 16 years." from The Brothers Montney, by David Gillis, ThumbPrint News Columnist, date not shown.
- Residence*: circa 1820; Marysburgh Twp., Waupoos Island, Prince Edward Co., Upper Canada; "He emigrated about 1820 from Waupoos Ontario, Canada." This is part of the notes in FindaGrave for Joseph Monteney, Jr. It shows that he was living on Waupoos Island and probably was married to Sarah Jane Smith there, with son George born there in 1826. Some confusion re dates here, but it clear places him on Waupoos in this time period when he and/or his father could have been conducting fur trading, and could have built the house that Alexander Shannon would move into in 1836.4
