"FRANCES A. SOLOMON. The funeral of Frances A. Thayer, beloved wife of James E. Solomon, took place from her late residence, Oliphant Street, Sunday afternoon, March 12, 1916. She passed away after a lingering illness on March 9th, in her 77th year. She was born, married, and lived in Brighton all her life. Previous to her marriage she taught school for a time at Colborne, also in the Drewry Hill and Philp neighborhoods, north of Brighton. On February 4th, 1858, she was united in marriage to James E. Solomon, who predeceased her on February 29th last, She was a member of the Methodist church since early childhood. She is survived by three sons, one sister, Mrs. Wm. Bartlett of Windsor, and one brother, Ira B. Thayer of Toronto.
Interment took place at Mount Hope cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. W. Elliott. (Readers will recall that in September last Mrs. Solomon wrote a very interesting article concerning the early days of Brighton for The Ensign which brought forth numerous letters of appreciation." from pg. 029 of Newspaper Clippings, a collection donated by Shawnee Spencer to the Brighton Digital Archives, 2022.
Note: It should be noted that the article done by Mrs. Solomon is available to us and has been well used. It provides wonderful anecdotal insight into the community of Brighton during her life, and includes interesting details not available elsewhere. We can certainly be grateful for Mrs. Solomon's work.
