  • Burial*: 8 August 1843; Stirling Cemetery, Rawdon Twp., Stirling, Hastings Co., Canada West; Memorial: (See Exhibits) Barce Chard; Aug. 6, 1843; Aged; 79ys 6m 6d (Stirling Cemetery, Stirling, Aug. 30, 2006)
CEMSearch: Name: Carge? Chard; Born: 1774?; Died: 1813-08-06; AgE: 39y 6m 6d; Notes: Stone hard to read, first name unclear; Buried: Stirling Cemetery, Sec I; No other names.
Note: This stone was partially under the grass and had to be cleared of sod and dirt in order to make out the inscription. The name "Barce" becomes clear once you get it cleaned off and look close. The year is less obvious; It certainly looks like 1813 since there is little evidence of any indentation to the left of the deep gash of the 1. There is a small mark and there is more than normal space between the 8 and the large gash of the 4. The spacing alone suggests it was once a 4. It also must be 1843 so the age of 79 years fits - if death is 1843 and birth 1764.4,7
  • Note*: 1780; New York, U.S.A.; "Barce Chard (1764-1842) enlisted, 1780, for three years as corporal and sergeant under Capt. Job Wright, Col. Marinus Willett, New York troops; was engaged in skirmishes with Tories and Indians. In 1835 he applied for a pension. His claim was allowed. He was born in Norwalk, Conn.; died in Rawdon, Victoria County, Canada." from North American Family Histories, Daughters of the American Revolution, Lineage Book: NSDAR: Volume 070: 1908, pg. 36 of 399 (page 29), ancestry.ca)8
  • Residence*: 17 May 1802; Conc 1 Lot 15, Rawdon Twp., Hastings Co., Upper Canada; Land Registry Records (Patent) show that Barce Chard received the Patent from the crown for Lot 15, Conc 1, Rawdon Twp., all 200 acres. ITS Date: May 17 1802. (Image of Abstract Index Book, Rawdon Twp., Conc 1, Lot 15, pg 1, (227 of 250) copied from Onland, Ontario Land Registry Records, by Dan Buchanan, Sep 28 2020.5
  • Will*: 26 February 1842; Conc 1 Lot 15, Rawdon Twp., Hastings Co., Canada West; Will of Barce Card: " ... William Chard ... 50 acres .. Lot 15, Conc 1 .... daughters .. Deborah Palmer, Fanny Hubble, Chloe White, Polly Mack, Nancy Patrick, ... grandson Barce, son of William ... Peter Chard and wife Catharine. ... " This detail was taken from the microfilmed copy of the document #508, GS4260, Deeds 1847-1853, Rawdon Twp., Hastings Co. - Ontario Land Registry Records, Ontario Archives. By Dan Buchanan, not sure of date - sometime early in my research, probably around 2003 or 2004 or thereabouts.
Land Registry Records (Will ?547) show that a will was created Feb 26 1842 in which Barce Chard granted S?50 acres (exclusive of ? acres to Peter Chard ??) of Lot 15, Conc 1 to William and Peter Chard. ITS Date: Feb 26 1842. Reg'n. but possession might not have been given immediately. Exactly where Joseph lived before Ballston unless Long Island I do not know. Lewis was born in New York in 1772 & Long Island is a part of New York. There were Hart families on Long Island and many in Connecticut. John Hart of the New Haven Colony, Conn. went to Farmington, Conn. and died there in 1666. Perhaps our
Hart family descends from him. A Hannah Hart born in Farmington Sept 9,1744 dau of Jeaines possibly is the wife of Joseph Rosebush. Ballston was surveyed in 1771 when Rev Bliphalet Ball, a Minister from whom the town took its name, came from Bedford, Westchester County, N.Y. and who previously lived in Stamford & Woodbridge
Conn., it being said that many of his friends followed him there. I do not find the name of Joseph in the list however. Others from Long Islancl and New Jersey settled there, too." from Rosebush History, page 12 & 13 of 22 pages downloaded.
