In the evening after this first show there was a banquet provided by Messrs. Ketchum which tendered to the officers and others. To the wives the fair was an occassion for community gossip and the discussion of fashions. To the young swain it was a great occassion to drive to the fair with a spanking team in order to obtain the attention of his desired fiancee. There was business for the farmer on each day of the four day affair. The first day was spent discussing the improvement of crops and stocks and this was when the judging took place. On the second day the prizes were distributed. On the third day there was a ploughing match to decide the district championship and on the fourth day horse races took place. All these events were followed by dinners, dancing and songs." from The Tobey Book, page 101 & 102.
