About 1820, his brother, Joseph, accidentally learning of his residence in Canada, visited him and induced him to remove to Henderson, where he remained until after his father's death. At the close of the war of 1812 he moved to Jefferson Co., N.Y.; in 1832 returned to Canada and lived most of the time in Northumberland.

  Note: HIs death was reported 1 Jun 1870; I'm not sure if the stone was misread or the stone is incorrect, but it may say 1871. There are stones in this cemetery that were placed after the spouse's death that have the wrong year, it happens. The 1850 census at Ashland states he was b. 1788 (no children in the home). Margaret reported he was 82 years at time of death, the cemetery is reporting 84y. Zerah and Margaret were m. Ontario, Canada; the rec is coded as "Suran Ferry", and I am unable to open the document, but this does tell us he was never Zerniah, he was always Zerah. His first appearance at Cairo was in 1820, and had a wife in the home. Given Margaret's birth year, they prob did marry abt 1819.   Richard died sometime around 1880, he is in Jackson in 1880, on a census without his family, his occupation is listed as a miner. I have not found him after 1880.. I found Mathilda in St. Paul as a widow in 1895.. I have not found 1885 census for the family.
  Richard may have died in 1880 and was originally buried at the East Main Cemetery (now defunct). Many of the original burials were moved to Mt Evergreen Cemetery and Woodland Cemetery after 1900 when the school was built on the East Main Cemetery property. Records were lost.
