"Deaths of the Week: The Late Miss Mary Muriel Gould - The death took place on Friday after a long illness of Miss Mary Muriel Gould, daughter of Mr. A. C. Gould. Miss Gould had been sick for more than a year and was tenderly cared for by her aunt, who assiduously watched over her and ministered to every need. She is survived by her father and three brothers, with whom much sympathy is flet in their sore bereavement. The brothers are Charles of St. Paul; Allen, Dallas, Texas; and Harold of Edmonton. Mr. Charles Gould came home to see his sister before her death and was present at the funeral which took place on Monday. "Wooler: This community was startled on Tuesday of last week, by the intelligence of the sudden death of Mrs. Gould, Sr. Mrs. Gould was as well as usual in the morning when two of her sons with thier wives left the village to spend a few days at Twelve O'clock Point. George, another son, on going home, found his mother lying dead near her bed which she had evidently tried to reach. The funeral took place on Thursday and was largely attended. Rev. F. Woodger conducted the service. Deceased was a member of the Methodist church, a teacher in the Sabbath school, a leader of a Catechumen class and a member of the W. M. S. She was an intelligent woman, a regular attendant of church services and a mother who took a deep interest in her family and was deeply loved by them. Per Burial. - Death*: 29 January 1902; Shaw House, Rat Portage, Algoma District, Ontario; "Suicide at Rat Portage: Geo. Gould, C. P. R. ticket agent here, one of the most popular young men of the town committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple with a revolver at the Shaw House today. Deceased was at the station when the train going east arrived this morning, and performed his duties as usual. Between 10 and 11 o'clock he went to Shaw House, where he boarded, and went into the bar, where he met tow or three friends. He talked for a few minutes, and on leaving to go to his room shook hands with them, at the same time bidding them "goodbye". His actions aroused suspicion and these suspicions were communicated to his brother, when he came in shortly afterwards. His brother thereupon decide to go to his room where he discovered George lying unconscious across the bed, with a bullet wound in his temple and a revolver lying in the bed beside him. A doctor was immediately summoned but Gould died shortly afterward. Deceased who was about 27 years of age, was born at Wooler, Northumberland County, Ont., and came of one of the most highly respected families of the county. He came to Rat Portage a little over two years ago in the capacity of C. P. R. "The late Mrs. L. F. Gould: On Thursday evening of last week, Josie Scott, beloved wife of Mr. L. F. Gould, entered into rest after a short illness. Deceased had not been well for some time and had been confined to bed for about a week when on Monday evening, April 9th, she was seized of a severe stroke of paralysis from which she never rallied. The late Mrs. Gould was born at Wooler 52 years ago and about 25 years ago was married to her now sorrowing husband. They came to Campbellford about 20 years ago, Mr. Gould taking a position as salesman with J. B. Ferris & Co. which position he was compelled to relinquish about four years ago on account of failing health. Deceased was a lady held in the highest esteem by all who knew her and dearly loved by those who knew her best. She was kindly, affectionate nature, cheerful of disposition, devoted to her church and willing to help in every good cause. Quiet and unostentatious in her activities, she devoted practically all of her spare time to social service and church work, beibg active in the Ladies Aide, the Missionary Society of which she was a life member and the W. C. T. U. She is survived by her husband, one brother, Mr. Scott and one sister, Mrs. Casement, both of whom reside at Wooler. ... The funeral was held on Monday afternoon ... The remains were conveyed to Wooler for interment.
