- Father*: John Albert Nichols2 b. 27 Oct 1849, d. 21 Mar 1932
- Mother*: Henrietta "Ettie" Bound2 b. 13 Aug 1864, d. c 1910
- Birth*: 8 June 1883; Peterborough, Peterborough Co., Ontario; Date Jun 8 1883 & location Peterborough "Gilbert was born to John Albert Nichols and Henrietta Bound and had 5 brothers and 5 sisters." per Findagrave. Date Jun 8 1883 & location Ont. rural per 1901 Census.2,3
- Marriage*: 1913; Sudbury, Ontario; "Born at Peterborough 42 years ago Mr. Nichols moved to Sudbury where he married Dorothy Easton in 1913. Mr. & Mrs. Nichols moved to North Bay where they have resided." per Findagrave.; Principal=Dorothy Easton2
- Death*: 22 January 1929; Ontario; Date Jan 22 1929 & location York, Haldimand Co., Ontario per Findagrave. (Note: Not sure what this location refers to? Need to see death reg'n.)2
- Burial*: 24 January 1929; Terrace Lawn Cemetery, North Bay, Nipissing Dist., Ontario; Findagrave: Name: Gilbert Bruce Nichols; Birth: 8 Jun 1883, Peterborough, Peterborough Co., Ont.; Death: 22 Jan 1929 (aged 45), York, Haldimand Co., Ont.; Burial: Terrace Lawn Cemetery, North Bay, Nipissing Dist., Ont.; Plot: Bock 7; ID: 97945663; Notes: "Excerpt from the North Bay Nugget, Friday, January 25, 1929.; Obituary of Gilbert B. Nichols; The death of Gilbert Nichols of 169 Morin Street occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Toronto General Hospital where he had been a patient for the last month. ; The body was brought to North Bay arriving here Wednesday night. The funeral was held this afternoon from the residence to St. John's Anglican Church where the Reverend H. A. Sims conducted the funeral service. Internment was made at St. John's Cemetery.: Born at Peterborough 42 years ago Mr. Nichols moved to Sudbury where he married Dorothy Easton in 1913. Mr. & Mrs. Nichols moved to North Bay where they have resided. He was a member of the B. of L. E. & E. [Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen], Lodge No. 23 under which auspice the funeral was held and the Peterborough Orange Lodge.; Besides his wife, surviving are two sons, Lionel & Jack and three brothers and sisters.;
*error in obit: Gilbert is buried at Terrace Lawn Cemetery.; Gilbert was born to John Albert Nichols and Henrietta Bound and had 5 brothers and 5 sisters. ; I believe the Nichols family may have lived in Clare County, Michigan from 1890 - 1894. Noted on sister Fannie May's 1910 Border Crossing doc.; she lived in the U.S. from 1890 - 1894 at Clare, Michigan. In addition another sister; Florence Blanche was born in 1891 - Sheridan, Clare, Michigan.; Sadly, it would appear an incident must have occurred to the Nichols family around 1910 resulting in them to break up. In the 1901 Ontario census the family is all together: John Albert - father, Henrietta - mother with children: Gilbert, Jessie, Fannie May, Florence, Roy & Edith. Thomas, Clayton & Alma are not yet born. Jenkins Ray is born in 1900 and doesn't appear on this census which leads me to believe he died as an infant. Older brother Harry is noted as a brother to Fannie May & Thomas in manifest documents to whom they are going to live with in Saginaw, Michigan when they are sent to live away from the family home in 1910 and therefore as it would appear Harry was already living away from the family at that time. By the 1911 census the family appears to be broken: Gilbert can not be found on a census. Fannie May is sent to live with her brother Harry in Michigan. Florence can not be found on a census. Roy is living with another family as domestic help. Edith is living with another family as domestic help. Jenkins does not appear and I again believe this is likely because he died as an infant. Thomas is sent to live with his brother Harry in Michigan. Clayton is living in a Children's Hospital. Alma can not be found on a census.; Gilbert died from colon cancer."
