• Death*: 25 October 1939; Sarawak Twp., Grey Co., Ontario; "John Goodfellow; Sarawak, Passes; Highly Esteemed Sarawak Pioneer Dies Wednesday at Presqu'ile in 85th Year; Death came to a highly esteemed resident and pioneer of Sarawak on Wednesday in the person of John Goodfellow, who passed away at his late residence at Presque'Ile in his 85th year. Mr. Goodfellow was born on November 19, 1854, near Belleville. At the age of seven he came with his parents to Dundalk and settled there, moving to Sarawak Township in 1868. He attended school at S.S. No. 3, the first school house in this section, taught by Charles Julin. After attending school he set to work clearing the land. Deceased was the second eldest of a family of eight a son of the late John Goodfellow. On Sept. 11, 1895, he was united in marriage to Martha Ellen Neithercut of Dundalk, Ont. In religion he was a devoted member of the Anglican Church. Left to mourn his passing are his wife and three sons, Donald at home, Lanccelot and Whitney, sailing in the United States; three sisters, Charlotte, Mrs. Holland, Sarah, Mrs. Monahan of Owen Sound, Tilley, Mrs. George Corbell of Oak River, Manitoba, and 11 grandchildren. One son, Fred, predeceased him three years ago and four sisters and one brother also are dead."
