  • Marriage*: before 1784; New York, U.S.A.; Principal=Maria Dingman
  • Death*: after 1838; Northumberland Co., Ontario; Samuel Dingman does not appear in any Percy or Cramahe Census Records or Land Registry Records after 1837.
  • Note*: circa 1790; " ... Samuel Dingman, who was not a U. E. Loyalist, but fought for the rebels and was one of Washington's Life Guards -- he came to Canada 8 or 10 years after the war -- his property of course was not confiscated, and when he sold it and came to Canada he was worth a considerable sum, rich in fact, and had pension from the U.S. Government -- he came to Canada with 13 or 14 children, all boys but two; Jared Dingman, married but never had children; John Dingmanl Jacob Dingman, who married and had one child, a daughter, who (her father died when she was but a few years old) married Christopher Peterson, in Fredericksburgh." from Dingman List on RootsWeb, Feb 24, 1999, - from Prince Edward County Book, Ruth & Emerson Smart's Books, Jan 9 ,20042

  • Residence: 1794; Fredericksburgh Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario; A Land Petition says that brother John Dingman's family had lived on the Bay of Quinte for four years before going to Percy Twp. in 1798.
  • Residence: 1798; Percy Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Land Records show that Samuel's brother John was in Percy in 1798 so it is possible Samuel and his young family was here as well.
  • Residence: June 1799; Percy Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Possible Samuel and Mary were in Percy Twp. as early as summer 1799. That would explain why the next two sons are listed in Fredericksburgh Baptism Records and not the earlier ones. Baptism records states parents were "of Percy" in 1800 and 1801. It's likely that they lived in Percy and, until there was a minister in the area, went back to Fredericksburgh, their earlier home, to do things like baptisms and sometimes marriages. There was nothing but woods in Percy at that time.

  • Residence*: 1800; Percy Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; Possible Samuel and Mary were in Percy Twp. as early as summer 1799. That would explain why the next two sons are listed in Fredericksburgh Baptism Records and not the earlier ones. Baptism records state parents were "of Percy" in 1800 and 1801. It's likely that they lived in Percy and, until there was a minister in the area, went back to Fredericksburgh, their earlier home, to do things like baptisms and sometimes marriages. There was nothing but woods in Percy at that time.

Garrett B. Dingman1

M, #6119, b. 22 June 1819, d. 29 March 1887

  • Birth*: 22 June 1819; Fredericksburgh Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario; Note: I'm placing this Garrett Dingman as a son of Jacob Dingman, son of Jacob Petrus Dingman, due to several things I have seen: Adam Dingman tree from Ian Roberts shows Garrett Dingman b. 1818 of Milford as a son of Jacob Petrus Dingman. That is unlikely since the father would be 81 at the birth. It's more likley a son Jacob who was Garrett's father. - This is a guess, let's see how it works out. - per "Ian & Beth Roberts, Dingman Connection" book of Emerson & Ruth Smart, May 3, 2004.
