  • Census: 1835; Conc 3 Lot 13, Seymour Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; 1835 Assessment: John Cassan; Conc 3, Lot 13, 267/3 acres; 1 male over 16; 3 males under 16; 1 female over 16; 2 females under 16
  • Residence: 1835; Conc 3 Lot 13, Seymour Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; "Hello Dan: I have been looking at your Family Tree and was wondering if the Census reports listed below actually said John. The property Concession road 3 lot 12 is where Capt. Cassan and his son Edward lived and 13 is where Matthew and Joseph Cassan lived and is a part of the original land grant of Capt. Cassan
Whereas John Arthur Cassan lived on Concession road 5 lot 17. I am sending a map which you have likely seen - this shows the locations and residences. The children listed below are likely Capt. Cassan's - males and females over and under 16. The list below comes from Marjorie Nestibo (Cassan) -- Marjorie suggests that John Arthur could have lived on Concession road 3 lot 13 but eventually moved to Concession road 5 lot 17." per email from Harley Cassan, Apr 28, 2008.
Note: I agree. These early census records MUST be under Matthew - the kids and age all work. It could be a transcription mistake or a copy-and-not-edit oversight which sometimes happens when I am doing a bunch of census records. I don't have the Seymour early census records printed (as I do for Percy, Murray and Cramahe) so I'll have to wait for that time to check - unless someone wants to check it for me. Thanks to Harley Cassan and Marjorie (Cassan) Nestibo for this info.2
