  • Note*: 22 May 2004; Dingman/Lumbley Cemetery, North Marysburgh Twp., Prince Edward Co., Ontario; Excavation of the Dingman/Lumley Cemetery was carried out by Emerson and Ruth Smart (Dingman), Wendy... and Dan Buchanan. The Vaughan's allowed access to the fence place back of the bean field by their house. Stones for about a dozen people were uncovered and set out for preservation and recording; several smaller stones, some broken pieces of larger stones and some small markers, were also found. Ian Riley of the Marilyn Adams Research Centre in Ameliasburgh attended for a time, recorded the specifics and discussed the plan to care for the stones and the cemetery in the future. The crew believes that this was, in fact, the site of the original cemetery, based on the spaced out but close arrangement of the main stones but more importantly because of two marker stones, containing only initials, which were found in their original planted positions, at right angles and straight up. We had to dig down almost 3 feet to take these marker stones out. We believe the initials on these two stones are H. M., for Henry Martin, and G. H. D., for George Henry Dingman, both shown on larger grave stones that were recovered.
